West Of Mae

Who Did It First?

Mae West, the original “West” and not Kanye, was a woman that left her mark on the world by embracing her femininity and sensuality. This made her name a staple in Hollywood, whether controversial or not. She was confident and sort out the thrill in life. The play she wrote titled “Sex” led her to a 10-day jail stint because it was viewed as to forward for society’s norm in the 1920’s.

It is said that her film, She Done Him Wrong saved Paramount from filing for bankruptcy and the film is also what made Cary Grant a star. West was the highest paid actress in Hollywood in 1935. Her outspoken nature and memorable quotes seemed to always hold a double entendre and that’s how you knew it was distinctly her.

“There are no good girls gone wrong – just bad girls found out.”

“I’m no model lady. A model’s just an imitation of the real thing.”

“I wrote the story myself. It’s about a girl who lost her reputation and never missed it.”

She lived an unapologetic life and her legacy will live on for that very fact.
